Arthur O Fournier

Arthur O. Fournier, 92, died on December 5, 2014, at Riverwoods in Exeter.

Born on February 28, 1922, he was the son of the late Frank & Laura (Bouchard) Fournier.

Arthur was born & raised in Berlin, NH. He was a graduate of Berlin High School, Class of 1940, where he proudly served as Captain of the school's hockey team. He worked as a machinist for Pratt Whitney.

Arthur enlisted into the United States Navy and proudly served in World War II from 1942-1946. He later graduated from Hesser Business College. Arthur owned and operated a J.J. Nissen Baking Co. distributorship in conjunction with his father, 2 brothers, & a brother-in-law. He retired in 1977 after 27 years of employment.

He was a devoted parishioner of St. Anne Church where he served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. Arthur was an officer of the Sacred Heart League as well as the church Parish Council for several years. He rose to the rank of 4th degree Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. In 1990, Arthur was installed into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, a special honor bestowed on Catholics for their unselfish work for the Church and community.

A dedicated husband & father, he was instrumental in introducing his sons to athletics. Arthur was a passionate hockey and baseball fan who most frequently could be found at the arena or ballpark attending his sons' and grandson's athletic events. He also enjoyed skiing with his wife and children. Hockey played a central role in the life of Arthur and his 3 brothers.

In 1993, Arthur & his wife began wintering in N. Fort Myers, FL where he most enjoyed golfing, traveling, attending concerts, and card playing. His favorite games were Pitch and Cribbage. He was an avid participant in the weekly Cribbage Group at Riverwoods. He also enjoyed spending time at the southern Maine seashore. In 2000, he and Claire moved to Bedford, NH, and to The Boulders at Riverwoods in Exeter in 2010.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Claire, of 60 years, on August 29, 2013, and by two brothers, Norman and Wilfrid Fournier.

Arthur is survived by his daughter, Claudette C. and her husband, Paul E. Ramsey, of Bedford, NH; two sons, Denis L. and his wife, Wendy E. Fournier, of Bedford, NH, and Marc A. Fournier, of Alameda, CA; 2 grandchildren, Brian J. and his wife, Kristen Ramsey of Manchester, NH, and Katherine L. Ramsey of Dorchester, MA; a sister, Dora Fournier, and a brother, Walter Fournier, both of Berlin, NH.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 11, at 1:00 PM at St. Anne Church, 345 Pleasant St., Berlin, NH. Burial will follow at the St. Kieran Cemetery.
