Arthur J King

Arthur Joseph King, 79, of Western Avenue, Berlin, NH, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by several of his family members, on Sunday, March 16, 2014, after a battle with cancer.

Born on July 27, 1934, he was the eldest son of Arthur and Yvonne (Bailey) King. He was a life-long resident of Berlin, and a 1952 graduate of Notre Dame High School.

A well-respected member of the local business community, Arthur got his start in home-heating at a young age working at the Hodgdon Oil Company here in Berlin. Later, he owned and operated Eagle Oil and Berlin Utility Gas for several years. After nearly 50 years in the home-heating business, he decided to try his hand at "retirement" in 2000, when he sold Berlin Utility Gas Company to Munces. However, never having been one to "sit still" for very long, he soon began working as an automobile delivery driver for Berlin City Auto Group, where he remained until shortly before his death.

On July 16, 1994, Arthur married his beloved wife, Jacqueline Breton. He was a devoted family man. He loved being "captain" of his boat, or "the ship" as he termed the 19.5 foot vessel, "Impossible Dream". He greatly enjoyed sharing long rides with family and friends through the Great North Woods on his ATVs. And he truly cherished spending quality time with several precious pets over the years; especially his dog, Duchess or "the Ma" as she was better known; and his feline buddies, Gus and Felix.

Arthur was a devoted parishioner at Saint Ann Church of Good Shepherd Parish.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie "Jaucq" King; four sons, Arthur "Pete" King of Wilson Mills, ME; Dennis "Fuzzy" King and his wife, Corrine of Berlin, NH; Maurice "Moe" (aka "Boochi") King of Manchester, NH; Jamie King and his wife, Sandra of Goffstown, NH; his daughter, Michelle King of Gorham, NH; and two step-daughters, Michelle (Gosselin) Desilets and her husband David Desilets of Charlestown, NH; and Danielle (Gosselin) Watkins of Berlin, NH; two brothers, Richard King and his wife, Lorraine of Berlin, NH; Raymond King and his wife, Lucille of Gorham, NH; and two sisters, Virginia Lefebvre of Aurora, CO; and Freda and her husband, Donald Roberge, of Berlin, NH. Additionally, Arthur leaves behind seventeen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several cousins, nephews and nieces.



He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul and his son Claude.

Calling hours will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Friday, March 21st at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High St. Berlin, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish in Berlin.
