Alice Mary Howland

February 19, 1922 — August 18, 2013

Berlin, NH

Our mother (Mary) Alice Howland (91) closed her eyes for the last time early Sunday morning, August 18th at the Coos County Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the last six years.

She was born in Gorham on February 19, 1922 to Jacqueline Desrocher and John Provencher and spent the majority of her life in Gorham. She lived in Hartford Ct during WWII working at Pratt Whitney Aircraft supporting the war effort.

She was the loving wife of Guy Howland and lived in Randolph NH for many years until Guy's death in 1991 and she eventually moved back to Gorham. Mary--call me ALice--as she always said loved a good joke and April Fool's Day was her day to shine. No one was immune from whatever prank she pulled.

She worked for many years at the Ed Fenn School and then Gorham HIgh School in the hot lunch program. She enjoyed all the students and faculty during her years employed as the "Lunch Lady". In her mid-fifties she was very proud that she earned her GED...education was important to her. Alice was also well known in her neighborhood for making donuts that the local kids enjoyed. She was an excellent cook and her homemade bread and rolls were a family favorite.

She was predeceased by four sisters and five brothers. She is survived by six daughters, Norma Dimick or Groveton NH, Barbara (Dave) Buck of Oregon, Gloria (Ray) Howland-Mulligan of Randolph, NH and Sebastian, Fla. Fay Howland or Manchester, NH, Janet Howland and Mark Hopkins of Ct. and Colleen Howland of Gorham, NH. Nine grandchildren, Scott (Kat) Dimick of Portland, Me. Troy (Sandy) Dimick of Thornton, NH Dave (Wendy)Buck of Washington, Donna-Marie (Jerry) Sharp of Idaho, Kim (Doug)Greenwald of Az. Tina DePaolo of Manchester, NH, Eric DePaolo of Concord, NH, Megan Merchant (Justin Jacques) of Berlin, NH and Tommy Lynch of Ct, Ten great grandchildren, Lacey Chic of Az, Kyle & Kayla Dimick, Hannah and Alden Dimick, Kameron Keller, Michael Buck, Lucky Talley, Nathaniel Greenwald and Lucas Jacques.
