Mr. Alfred D. Skippy Provencher, 82, of 14 Park Street in Gorham, NH passed away on Sunday July 15, 2007 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin, NH. He was born in Berlin, NH on October 23, 1924 the son of John and Jacqueline (Derosier) Provencher and has lived in Gorham most of his life. Prior to his retirement he worked for Pratt & Whitney in CT, then worked for Brown Company and James River for 35 years retiring in 1979. While there, he worked at the Bermico Plant at the Burgess Mill and worked in the towel room at Cascade. As a young man he worked for the CCCs. He was a member of Holy Family Church of Good Shepherd Parish, a lifetime member of the Fur, Feather and Fin Club, and a lifetime member of the Gorham Historical Society. Mr. Provencher enjoyed being with his family and his grandchildren. He was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed sports, playing golf, hunting and fishing. He had a passion for working with wood. He was known to his neighbors as the Mayor of Park Street. His grandson Alex was quoted as saying one of the toughest individuals to ever be known, and a great loss to the Town of Gorham. Members of his family include his wife of 63 years Lillian (Dubie) Provencher of Gorham, NH; a son Don Provencher of Gorham, NH; three daughters Linda Blanchette and her husband Don of Manchester, NH, Lisa Sankiw and her husband John of Gorham, NH and Lauralee Lamontagne and her husband Jeff of Manchester, NH; grandchildren Alex, Taylor and Adam Lamontagne of Manchester, NH and grandchildren Noah and Amanda Sankiw of Gorham, NH; a brother Edward Provencher of Venice, FL; a sister Alice Howland of Gorham, NH; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter Laurie-Ann Provencher in 1964 and a grandson John Sheldon Sankiw III. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Holy Family Church, Church Street in Gorham, NH. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home 1 Promenade Street in Gorham, NH on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Gorham Historical Society, 25 Railroad Street, Gorham, NH 03581.
